Off to Glastonbury

A long awaited Glastonbury arrives on Wednesday. We’re off to bask in glorious mud and sunshine, and to watch Neil Young, Blur, Bon Iver, Doves and loads more. VERY EXCITED. And what’s more exciting, is I get to go with the most beautiful man in the world! Bye! xxx

New Song

Well, I’ve got somewhere tonight with a new song. I started with an upbeat tune but I’ve gone back to a bit of a miserable one… anyway, I hope to finish tomorrow and post online.

I’m finding it quite hard having been a little of the radar for a while. I need to get back into a routine or something like that.

It’s going to continue to be a little quiet on the STL front - I’m working on material/recordings for a new EP to tour with and do other exciting things this Autumn.

Right, well I better get back to it.

Goodnight.

Antony and the Johnsons

I went to see Antony Hegarty in Bristol and cried rather a lot. He is really the most amazing and talented musician. His voice is out of this world.

He’s really, really inspired me to get my bum in gear and start moving my music the way I want it.

Come on string players, get in touch!

Recruiting

I’m very excited to say I’ve got PJ tickets. Hooray! However we’re sitting about 10 miles away from the stage and also about 1000 meters in the air. But I suppose at least we’ll be there.

I’ve been a little slack of late on the STL front. I got distracted from working hard and so I guess I’ve had a bit of a rest, which I shouldn’t have had really. Having said that I’m finishing a record now that’s been lying around for quite some time. I’ll be doing some London and Brighton dates in Autumn, and through the summer I’ll be playing in the South West.

I’m on the lookout for some crafted musicians - I want to find some interesting instruments as well as a fiddle, cello and some backing vocals. So if you’re keen and live near me (Bristol, Bath) then drop me a note. I am very nice.

I’m currently writing some different stuff. I’m experimenting with electric guitar. Some songs will be up here soon.

Over and out.

Mingus catches Bats

stl

I went out to a gig tonight at the Rondo Theatre in Larkhall, Bath. It was a really good show - mainly because the venue is so lovely, and the seated audience listened! I was supporting Port Erin who were great.

While I was performing, Mingus was busy catching and biting a Bat, which he deposited underneath the table. It was taken away from him - I don’t understand why he never learns… All the animals he brings into the house are removed swiftly, alive or dead. Yet he still loves to bring in his presents…

Well I’m off camping tomorrow with my rusty Wheelbarrow, that I Love. Him and his stripy T-shirt. I hope the sun shines for us and our whisky.

A new record will be finished soon (ish) I have some lovely friends who’ll be helping me mix it and make it smell of Roses. And a lovely Ginger cat called Mingus who is a master of all things, especially and not least leaving me rodent lungs.

Goodnight.

A change gonna come

walk2

So, an unexpected move is on the cards… I’m trying to look at this as a positive and exciting change, rather than leaving my home on the farm that I’ve grown so fond of.

Mingus and I are now three… so the three of us will be moving house and planning for a fresh start. But we need to go somewhere Mingus friendly, which means as little traffic and road as possible.

A country girl is what I am. The green and the smell of clean air… but I think a city move is what’s most likely.

Well, I’ve written my farm girl songs, so a city record is up for Winter. Brill!

Everything happens for a reason, so onwards and upwards to pastures new.

Now I must practice for my gig tomorrow at the Folkhouse and think about whether to do the X Factor audition on Saturday. Ha!

Goodnight.

P.s The walk I had in this picture was glorious. It was cold and crisp and I fed ponies bananas. We walked until dusk.

Greetings!

Well it’s been a lovely little holiday I’ve had… and now I am back and ready to get my head down and work hard.

I had a gig at the Thunderbolt in Bristol last Thursday (one of my favourite spots) and got a lovely little review in Venue Magazine. Take a look…

“Since last reviewed by Venue in ‘07, She Tells Lies released her debut EP, emerging on the live scene, all sun-warmed loveliness and poetry. From the minute she picks up her guitar, singer Jemima Rose exudes mellow confidence. Lyrics so good you’ll wish you’d written ‘em and a voice that warbles and soars over the beer swilling milieu.” Venue 2009.

So I was quietly pleased about that. It was a packed out night with drunken youth flocking in to see their talented and mostly tall friends, of the My Friend Friday crew, who played a cracking set.

I’m in the midst of writing a plan for STL which will involve a tour… well actually, more of a London based offering. I’ve been playing a while now locally, and I think it’s about time I ventured further afield. I don’t plan to live in London, but I certainly intend on becoming known there for playing my little folk ditties and having a small obsession with cats.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my Mad March endeavor… and I am so happy with the songs that I wrote, even if I didn’t get to the 31 songs milestone.

Mike Skinner from The Streets has announced this week that he’d be writing three songs in three days and posting them to his Twitter account. Now that’s a much more sensible idea! And now I know that I am perfectly capable of writing 16 songs in 16 days, I know I can write three songs in three days, and I shall keep up with something like that - every month do a little stint. I’ve already planned the next one…

Well, the Mad March songs will soon be available in a lovely little packaged CD with gorgeous artwork designed by my lovely friend, Robb.

I could keep on writing but I think I’ve written enough now! Back to my spring clean and spiders.

Light and love,

Miss Mima.

Oops

I accidentally deleted the rest of that post. There was stuff before it. Nevermind. I’ll write again tomorrow.

Sleep.

Mr Muscle

Thank you all for your words of advice and encouragement. Some of you have suggested I grit my teeth and complete the 31 songs. Other have kindly suggested I write a few more and in doing so keep up the quality of the songs so far.

So, I have been doing some serious thinking today whilst staring at the Council’s Intranet.

16 songs in 7 days… Well, I have decided to try my best to get as many good songs finished.

Annoyingly I gave myself toxic poisoning from Mr Muscle, which with one more early night, I will be as right as rain. I’ve been playing about with a few bits and pieces tonight and will post song 17 tomorrow night. Perhaps song 18 might come as well, and over the weekend, I could write the remaining, er, 13 or however many there are.

This has been a marvelous little project for me, and even if there are not 31 songs on the 31st of March, there will be all the songs so far! xxx
